    They breed all year, I think the January/February dates are popular because there aren't a lot of other big game hunts going on and the weather is pleasant in their desert environment that time of year.

    a few unit 45 pics

    did a 23 mile loop in the Pecos, lots of rain and hail but the country is still very dry. Rode right up to elk and bighorn sheep, they couldn't care less!

    Elk in the pecos wilderness

    Topdog, I just got back from riding a big loop through the Pecos packing salt to bighorn sheep. I saw dozens of elk, several good bulls but all in country that even when the elk move to lower ground would be difficult to access, the Pecos is big rough country ( I am thinking about your dad)...

    NM ram

    Found this ram this weekend while packing salt to the bighorn herd and posted him on a few sites to get a score opinion. As per state law we turned the skull over to NM game and fish so we will get an official number but what do you think? Nice ram for the Pecos!

    Doesn't look like finding elk should be a problem, saw large groups of 50 or so cows, calves and spikes in several different drainages.     Elk in the pecos wilderness

    went from this........ to this in 24 hours, came off the mountain to take my brother-in-law home, went back up Monday with another friend/tag holder. We rode 6-8 hours a day Monday through Wednesday and didn't hear another bugle. Hopefully they will turn back on for the rifle guys.
