Kidoggy's first post touched on my thoughts...in addition to my original post. I've shot a lot of bucks this size over my 65 years hunting deer. A lot depends on the unit, the deer population and conditions you are hunting in. I also like to eat deer meat. Some units I hunt here in Colorado...

My 2 "go to" rifles (Ruger M77 25-06 & custom .300 Wby) both weigh in at close to 10# full of ammo & a sling. Don't really care as both are tack drivers....I'll lug around them as long as I can hunt!

Looks like I'm in for a Wyoming deer hunt. I have enough points to draw several different units for elk & deer here in Colorado, but waiting till the deadline for applications to decide what I'm doing here. I should be able to get in several scouting trips before I apply.

We bought our doe tags at a gas station and a hardware store. They were issued a book full and when they were gone, that was it. Back then hunting was pretty simple, no ohv's, just jeeps and 4x4 trucks. Land owners were very welcoming too.
