    Mule Deer Assistance

I've hunted mule deer since I was 12 ( I'm 78 now, do the math!) and have learned a lot about their habits. I only killed a couple over 180" because early on I was only interested in filling the freezer. If I found a large buck, so be it, but I never let a smaller 3 or 4 point go. I firmly...

Am I the only one who does not enjoy cleaning firearms?

I also use APP in my ML. The powder charge for APP is the same as Goex. When I go to a big 2 or 3 day match, the cleaning sessions after the match are usually used as a social gathering. We sit around some communal tables cleaning our guns, drinking a few brewskis and BSing with everybody...

Am I the only one who does not enjoy cleaning firearms?

All "black powder" is not created equal. I've been shooting BP class in Cowboy Action for 15 years. I have used real BP and lots of substitute BP and have found that the certain subs are much easier to clean. For the last 10 years or so, I have only used APP as it is really easy to deal with...

Am I the only one who does not enjoy cleaning firearms?

My .220 AI Swift shoots 2" to 3" high the first shot after it is cleaned, always has. Just a habit I got into many years ago. I generally clean my hunting guns after the season and shoot a fouling shot before I sight in before my next shooting session.

Am I the only one who does not enjoy cleaning firearms?

A lot of rifles will not shoot the same zero when they are cleaned. Shooting a fouling shot returns them to your zero. All of mine get a fouling shot after cleaning, except my cowboy action guns.

Am I the only one who does not enjoy cleaning firearms?

I shoot cowboy action with BP at least once a month and practice some between matches. I shoot 4 guns (2 pistols, a lever action rifle & a double bbl shotgun) that have to be cleaned after EVERY shooting session. Gets to be habitual. I also do like JIm, clean everything that I don't use for...

    Pronghorn Draw

I have hunted antelope here in Colorado once in the 20 years I have been a resident. Took 15 points to draw the unit I wanted and I had 18. Great unit, but only 25 tags available. I have a neighbor who hunts public land here about every 3 or 4 years. Good public land draws are pretty tough...

    Pronghorn Draw

NR cannot apply for a RFW tag and they cannot hunt in the RFW season (which is different than the normal seasons). If they buy a tag from the operator of the ranch, it would have to be a land owner tag.

When do Harvest reports come out?

I don't put much faith in harvest numbers for most western states. They don't contact ALL of the tag holders and the data they do get can be bogus. I do like the way California does it where all unused tags must be returned to the state. They get better data then. I have not been contacted by...

    Kaibab early rifle!

Unit 70 in Colorado is a tough hunt in 3rd season unless you get lots of snow. I hunt it regularly as I live about 100 miles to the south. I have seen and shot some nice bucks from it, but I always hunt 4th season.

    Class

What made me go to the 180 level was that his is 30" wide. Hard to judge that in the picture.

    Class

I say 180's. Harder to tell when they are in the velvet as it makes the mass seem greater.
