    Teddy Roosevelt

He was not a very good shot (probably because of his eyes) and there were lots of animals that escaped that were wounded. The book I cited was from his ranching days in the Dakotas. Most of the animals taken during that period were used as food for his ranch hands. Later during the hunts with...

    6.8 Western

I think a lot depends on what the bullet hits and how much energy it expends.

    Teddy Roosevelt

He is one of my Hero's and I have an extensive collection of his books and books about him. I found an old Executive Edition of his book Hunting Trips of a Ranchman/Hunting Trips on the Prairie and the Mountains to add to my collection. I just finished reading it for the 2nd time and found a...

    Ruger No 1 .300 Weatherby

I mounted the Leupold 4 x 14 VXIII on the new Ruger and boresighted it. Went to the range today, even tho it was pretty windy . Only fired 8 rounds total. Started at 25 yds to verify zero then moved to 100 yds. shot 4 rounds and quit because it was really blowing. My old load for the other .300...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Personally I don't think there is really "one gun" suits all, Sure you can kill anything with a 30-06 with the right shot placement and I think it comes closer to my definition of one gun than anything else. If I had to pick one gun it would be it with my handloads.l I just can't see shooting...

    For the Hunting Handloader

Military was sealed and still might be. When I was young and my Dad started reloading, he used to get a lot of surplus WWII brass. I remember he used to cuss about how hard it was to get the primers out. They were staked in and sealed. Don't know about todays stuff because I don't use it. I only...

    For the Hunting Handloader

No...never have in over 60 years reloading. I also do not and never have lived anywhere where there is high humidity. I have shot stuff I loaded many years before with no problems. I did have a problem with some .38 Special loads I shoot for Bulls Eye. They got wet and would not go bang. But it...

    Colorado Waterfowl 21/22

Down here in the SW part of Colorado I have seen almost every kind of duck. Some are not as plentiful, but we have tons of Mallards year round. The 3 varieties of Teal, Widgeon, Gadwalls and a few Pintails. All of the divers on the local lakes. Lots of Canadas year round. I have seen a few snows...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Winchester is spot on. There is absolutely no substitute for rounds down range. The current ammo shortage is another reason to reload. Tailoring a load to your own rifle is not the only benefit as everyone can see with todays ammunition situation.

It was a great trip, saw tons of antelope(more then I saw 5 years ago when I drew there) and a pretty fair amount of shooter bucks. We had a great time, even with a few weather complications to start the trip. Hope our deer and elk trip is as good as this was. T hanks to Winchester for inviting...
