    7mm-08 with 175 gr bullet

A friend tried some 175 grain Grand Slams in his 7mm Weatherby mag and gave up on them and went back to 160's. I loaded some 140 Barnes TTSX for my brother in laws 7mm Rem mag and they were not only very accurate but dropped elk.

    7mm-08 with 175 gr bullet

Most of the time manufacturers will stop with bullet weight with what works. A 180 grain 308 bullet will be shorter than a 7mm 175. Plus rifle manufactures set the rifling in the barrel to stabilize the more common bullets, that 175 may not stabilize out of your rifle, where a 308 may handle the...

    7mm-08 with 175 gr bullet

Unless you are a hand loader I doubt that you will find any loaded ammo for the 7mm-08 with a 175 grain bullet. 165 grain may be the heaviest that you'll find, if you can find that. I have a nephew who's sons shoot a 7mm-08 and they have taken a number of cow elk with the 140 grain bullets.

Small Calibers for Big Game Hunting

There were other hunts going on in the unit but the tag holder was still restricted to only a open sighted weapon.

Small Calibers for Big Game Hunting

Utah had one this season, calling it a "restricted" hunt where only iron sights are allowed for rifles and pistols. There were reports of some hunters shooting at game way over the range that they could shoot effectively. The hunts were considered limited entry hunts where if a officer saw a...

    Camofire Replacement

I don't believe that they actually had any actual inventory. Quite a bit of what I ordered from them was shipped from elsewhere. They were part of Black Orvis I believe that also closed up shop.

    Camofire Replacement

When I found something that I liked on Camo Fire I would always check online to see what other locations were selling it for. Most of the time I could find it cheaper elsewhere. One thing about Camo Fire is that at times they came up with some unique items that unless you knew of the company...

Small Calibers for Big Game Hunting

Quite a number of states have no caliber restriction on big game rifles, except it has to be a center fire round. But you also need to figure that when most of these rules were written there were very few animals larger than deer east of the Mississippi River except for moose up north. But I...

    Bipods for Rifles

I tried a shooting stick when I was up in Wyoming on my antelope hunt and it was better than most. The rest part was a block that was about 2"x3" that you rested your rifle on. Of all the shooting sticks that I have used it was the solidest rest that I have tried. The only problem was I didn't...

    Bipods for Rifles

You need to see if you can use one when you get proned out. I have a couple but have a problem bending my neck far enough to get a good view through the scope on level ground . One that I use on my 25-06 is tall enough that I can use it in a sitting position.

    Huge Utah Buck

Here are the two others from Utah. This one is from Antelope Island, only two tags a year are let out. One for a lucky resident and one from a auction. I believe that this one is from the Henry Mountains, but I could be wrong.

    Huge Utah Buck

Many years of points, or just getting lucky on the draw. There was also a great buck taken on Antelope Island and another one down on the Henry Mountains I believe

    Broken Stuff

This hasn't been my year. First are the health problems but those are under control, I hope. Then came my new roof. After 60 years the roofer found problems with every sheet of roofing that they peeled off of the existing roof. The dollars kept adding up and up from the original estimate...

The Corner-Crossing War Is (Mostly) Over…For Now

In all my years hunting I have pretty much known just where I was, there were a few instances where I was slightly confused. But as far as private property was concerned I always knew if I was on it or not and always tried to avoid it if I could. When I first started hunting over 50 years...

Colorado's in hot water with the Feds-Wolves

It just gets more interesting all the time. As I was driving across Gore Pass the other day and today I had my fingers crossed that one would run across in front of my truck. But I never saw a thing.

The Corner-Crossing War Is (Mostly) Over…For Now

I believe that this case was brought because some hunters built a portable ladder that they could use to go over a fence at the corner of private and public lands. Think of a square with 4 squares inside this square. With the top squares being public and private and the bottom squares being...

The Corner-Crossing War Is (Mostly) Over…For Now

One problem with the GPS land quadrants is that they may be off just enough to confuse people. I can stand on one of my corner stakes and both of my mapping devices show it slightly off. One is OnX on my phone and the other is the chip in my GPS. But both show it close enough that I need to...
