I’ve always just strapped my rifle to my pack. No pouch for the butt to sit in either. The bottom strap I would lace it between the zoom of the scope and the rear scope ring and have never had a issue.

I’ve done a few guided hunts and have guided for a few years for clients. Now with the perspective of both I prefer to go DIY. I would still hire a outfitter if I was going outta state on a unit I’ve spent many years drawing to get a big animal or if I had to like a wilderness hunt in Wyoming.

I like to shoot all the rifles I have but I really enjoy shooting my Savage .308. All my others are mags and can get old shooting them with the kick but the .308 is fun to shoot with so much less recoil.

I’ve heard that also. I don’t know that area but the best knowledge is scouting. If I were you I would be in that unit starting in Aug as much as possible getting to know the roads where to hike in to sit on glassing spots. take a look at TagHub and also OnXhunt
