If I want to shoot a bullet that’s over 120 gr I will shoot a bigger caliber. This craz to oversize the caliber is ridiculous.

The idea of a oversize bullet for caliber is the oversized bullets ballistics for longer range.

But then everyone has gotten into their heads that you need a bullet, cartridge, and rifle combination that will shoot 1/2 moa out of a hunting rifle instead a rifle that just does the job.

They need to remember that we are not shooting flies off of a elk's back at the ranges that we shoot.

I’ve always had the attitude that I need to get as close as possible no matter the circumstances. If I plan to kill it I have to go get it anyways so why not close the gap.
I think there’s a lot of long range on tv due to the fact it’s easier to film.

I've had a few instances where you either shot at a longer range or you didn't get the animal. Sometimes the cover is so thick or the area is so open that there is just no way to get closer to the animal.

My Utah LE hunt for elk was one such instance, it was either take a very long cross canyon shot or just sit there and watch him. I could of gotten a lot closer but I would of never seen him until I got within 20 yards. My coues deer in Arizona was another, we spotted him over a mile and half away, the closest that we could get was just over 400 yards. These little deer are the spookiest animals that I have ever hunted. Then there was my South African kudu at 479 yards, last day of the hunt and a long cross canyon type of a shot. Like my Utah elk he was in cover so thick that I would be within 20 yards before I could see him.

So there are times but considering the size of most animals there is really no need to be able to shoot a dime size group at the distances that I encountered for my furthest shots. Minute of Animal was just fine.

I get what your saying JimP when I get into a spot like that I do pack a rifle capable of reaching out there (.280AI or .300WM) I just don’t get the small caliber for long range gig. I keep my 25-06 in the 0-400 range and my .243 0-300

It looks like Weatherby has done a great job creating a round for a specific use. I've always been a "get closer if you can" guy, but if you're going to shoot at an animal beyond 1/4 mile, you should make sure that you and your gear are accurate. Don't just fling a bullet out there hoping that it'll hit vitals.

I'm glad to see them making more good products IN THE USA to sell to more people. I don't need to own every rifle and every caliber made, but there's folks out there that want to buy different things. I'm glad to see Weatherby working to earn some of that business from more folks. More power to them!

Every hunting rifle I own is capable of killing an animal beyond 500 yards, me not so much. It took a lot of work to find the correct load that the rifle liked and would shoot that distance. All my rifles are "old school" calibers and it took a lot of work to get that load. Just because you have equipment that will do it, doesn't mean the shooter can.

seems pretty similar to 6.5prc....
I think a .25prc might be more appealing...

I don't know if/when weatherby will load the .257 with higher bc bullets and a faster twist barrel?

My guess is they won’t now with this new cartridge. If you want that, you’ll have to do a custom barrel.
