Looking for basically a suggestion on the best area for trophy antelope with most BLM available. Wife has like 10 points so they need to get used but want her to have a good chance at a trophy. Thanks.

Any area that takes 10 points to draw will be a great hunt. Really any 6+ point area will be a solid hunt. Pick a region that interests you.

The units I normally hunt have taken more points to draw, especially in the last 10 years. The herds have been hit with higher than normal winter kill due to pretty bad winters. The tag numbers for NR hunters have really taken a hit. My favorite unit used to have lots of does tags, last year there were none. Hopefully in a couple of years the population will rebound.

Hi, You have been great about answering many of my questions over the years. I got shut out in Nevada for antelope with 18 points so I am now focusing on Wyoming antelope with 16 points. My neighbor gave me a list of areas in the rock springs area (92,60,58,112,96,59,95). I see 60,58 & 112 give out only 50 tags. Do I have a good chance of drawing any of those? Also, how are the herds doing in those areas?

If I had 16 points I would honestly wait another 1-2 years. You can have a good hunt this year in the premium areas but it isn't what it once was since they haven't recovered fully from the bad winter a few years ago. In 1-2 years, with a little luck, those areas will be quite a bit better.
Thank you! That was my concern, that the herds had yet to recover.
The bigger issue is that I am 76 with 1 new hip and just getting used to the 2 plates/6 screws and a hookiedackle that were put in my back last year! I get any slower I'll have to crawl just to get close enough too crawl!

I'm about in the same boat that you are only with other ailments, it sucks to get old.
I decided to cash in 11 points this year with a friend who backed out just a week ago so I'll be going it by myself. However I am going with a outfitter outside of Chyeyenne just to make it easier on myself. I should draw out with no problem and will put a hunt report on here once I am home. You have to pay a little but I have found that being a non resident and having access to a lot of private along with knowing that the guide will know the area is well worth the cost. Plus I like sleeping in a nice bed anymore.

Biologists are employed and paid by the state, which wants to keep their greedy little hands on the bankroll.
I recently hunted with Carrico Safaris out of Rawlins and got a very nice mule deer and a nice elk the following year . But I have decided to do a solo hunt for antelope. I am going to put in for (in this order) 112,60 & 58.

Sorry man......I isn't the NR's fault. If the STATE issues tags, anyone can buy them. If the state cuts the number of NR tags (and probably residents too), the will not have enough money to run the department and costs for everything goes up for everybody, including everyone who lives there and hunts, fishes and traps. Residents don't kill does....wrong!
