Finally got a few days off during the week and was fortunate enough to chase some wild hogs here in the Golden State with my bow and arrow. Ended up sneaking in on a group of hogs and waited them to feed towards me. At 16 yards, I was able to thread an arrow into the vitals of this 235 hog. Fifty yards later, it was down for good! Lots of sausage in the making.

Nice piggy!
Is all meat on wild hogs good to eat? I've heard mixed opinions, including that no meat on an old boar hog is edible.
Never hunted em myself, but would love to get after em some day!

We hunt them down in south Arkansas. I won't bother cleaning a boar or even an older sow. Not sure about other states, but the older ones where I hunt are terrible. Kinda like marinating a store bought pork chop in Old Spice. No offense to anybody that uses OS.

They can be "salvaged" with a smoker if marinated really well. Just my 2 cents

I've only experienced great table fare. I usually have a lot of ground into breakfast sausage......but the chops aren't too shabby either.

Great job on that fatty. It would have been cool if I would have hunted with you that night and we doubled.

I have killed one big stinky boar. The pig itself stunk bad. When I de-boned it the meat smelt like meat. When I cooked the sausage/burger up the smell was that of the rank boar. A very musky smell, however the meat tasted like meat and was actually very good. The only thing I got from eating the big boar was some bad gas, but that is nothing new.
