Alot of my backpack gear is army gear. I have a Zlite pad and burnton stove. Nothing fancy and I would like to make some upgrades but it works. Late season or when Im camping near my truck I have a smaller canvas tent. Sure is nice coming back to the wood stove and warming up/drying out when its cold and wet out. Usually just heat up food on the wood stove too.

Nothing wrong with the Zlite! I've tried a bunch of pads, and the Zlite is about the only one I can sleep on for a few nights without my back feeling like it's gonna break. I put my clothes on top of the pad (or under, if they are wet) for some added loft, and I sleep pretty good.
Other main gear:
BA Fly Creek UL1
Stoic Vamp 15 degree down bag
MSR pocket rocket with Stoic titanium pot/spoon
Steripen classic filter

I've considered not bringing a tent and instead just something to shield me from the rain, but I haven't done that yet. Despite the weight of a tent(its not a heavy tent) and rareness of early season snow, the tent is something I feel I should have. Anyone backpack without a tent?
I've done it but don't know if i will again. Spent a week in the High Uintas during the early season getting hailed on every afternoon. The hail would bounce off the ground up under the rain fly. It was like being in a popcorn maker.

I like the Zlite. Its light and durable but I would like to get something a little thicker. Im going to get a tarp something like BOHNTR is using which will be an upgrade from my poncho. I have used a space blanket a few times to close it in better in bad weather.

I was going through some video from last seasons 2 week OTC public land solo archery hunt and took some screen shots to share. Nothing fancy. I moved camp 4 times following the elk I saw lots of Elk just could never get a shot of either of the two I was hunting. I got close but there was either a limb or tree in the way or the shot was two far. Still was a great hunt. Some of the photos may be blurry due to light and being video screen shots. Enjoy.

The tent set up simple one man tent. Solstice a very good tent for the money but not my favorite.

Living quarters. I keep a change of cloths and a few other essentials in the tent with me.

My pillow is the sleeping bag stuff sack with my down vest inside.

I always set up a light weight lean too if I can. I like to keep my pack and bow under it at night. It also make a good cloths line. I also keep my food and garbage up in a tree a little ways from camp.

You can see the edge of the stream on the left of the picture. This is one of my favorite camping spots. Great water at 8500ft and is really convenient

What a difference the years make? This camp photo was taken back in the late 80s about 8 miles from the pics above. It was my first archery Elk Kill in Montana. This was taken in late September about 4 miles from the truck. We went in to prep the Elk. We were young and not as prepared as we are these days. It was snowing and we didn't plan on staying the night but decided to stay. We only had space blankets and made some sleeping quarters with limbs under some trees near the fire. It was actually pretty comfortable. Got to love the old Swiss army wool cloths!! You can see one of the sleds with the elk meat stacked up. Even then the plastic sleds were the heat in the snow.
