Best Knee Pads for Antelope Hunt

Anybody got a favorite brand or model of knee pad?

Lowe's and Home Depot have a bunch to choose from. Some don't look hard enough, others might not stay on well or make it more difficult to walk.

buy the cheap foam ones, maybe a couple pair. Put them inside your pant leg down at your boots and pull them up when you need them. The heavy duty ones worn on the outside of the pant are overkill.

If you join the Army you will be issued some that work pretty well! lol Might be better to buy them army surplus. Anything those ground cactus cant stick through will work fine.

I have a pair of heavy leather knee pads which have a thick layer of felt on the inside which work good, and you can easily unbuckle them to take them off if you need to walk a ways. The foam ones are okay if there is not any cactus, but it's that little ball cactus you never see which gets you. The military knee pads have a hard plastic cap which is nice, but they are also heavily padded and can get hot.

BKC has good advise here, i do the same with the athletic type knee pads with the elastic back. When needed your knee's will be protected and they don't make any noise while crawling around unlike the "construction type".

I went to Harbor Freight and got some cheap neoprene knee pads, they are light and easy to pack, the padding isn't the best but they are super quiet.

I use the army ones because I have them but Im sure there are better ones. leather gloves are a good idea too. I once belly crawled nearly 200 yards with soft mittens in just enough snow to so you couldnt see the cactus. It wasnt much fun but I got the antelope

In his book on antelope hunting, Mike Eastman recommends the knee pads made by Blackhawk. I bought a pair and really like them for serious crawling in the cactus.

They run $25 for the knee pads. Mike also uses the elbow pads.

I've never used them for hunting but we use them during many of our training events and they are very comfortable.

I've only been on 2 antelope hunts, but I think they are a must have along with light weight leather gloves. I bought a fairly cheap pair of skateboard knee pads at Wal Mart that go over the pants and are very comfortable.

If you are interested in the advanced tactical knee and elbow pads by Blackhawk, the ones Mike Eastman uses for antelope hunting, they are on sale on eBay now for $19.999 for both the knee pads and elbow pads together. I think they're normally $43. I'm not selling them, I just bought a set for myself.

I have always used the cheaper foam ones from Lowes, just keep em in my pack for when I really need them ! Boilermaker was right about the gloves use them more than the knee pads ! I also learn the hard way about needing the gloves !

Old thread but nice reference for my upcoming Pronghorn hunt. My 2018 Pronghorn hunt, I stalked/crawled 150 yards, and made a nice harvest. However, my knees and hands (mostly) paid the price. I ordered some knee pads and look to pick-up a pair of leather gloves this week.
