Wow, that's a lot of cash on a bag! I spent around $400 or $500 on my BA Pomer Hoit a few years ago and thought that was ridiculous! Can't imagine paying 700 bones! Probably a good bag though!

Its and expensive piece of kit for sure. Just about every company has their top of line stuff that keeps getting more expensive.

In all seriousness, Kuiu is doing a simulcast to talk about the bag on Tuesday. Any of you going to watch?

I saw the email also, I'm not in the market for a bag. It was tough to bring myself to cough up the coin for a used slik bag. I think kuiu is definitely targeting a small niche of folks with this product but more power to em if they grab up some sales. After watching the birth of kuiu and all the changes over the years I find myself deleting more and more emails before opening them.. I think alot of manufacturers could glorify there product material specs and raise awareness like kuiu does. I give alot of respect to their marketing/graphic design team. They cover the bases from start to finish with new product details, pics, and eye appeal.

Yes I do plan on attending or watching the event. I have the time and I find their marketing approach really interesting. This is the direction that I would like to take with my college education so I thought it will be educational as well.

I believe the cost is so high because they stitched the 'KUIU' emblem on the bag.
Yes, "Branding" can add a lot to the price tag! I don't remember were I read up on Kuiu, but for the owner to break apart from Sitka and become as notable as he did in such a short time says a lot. I know what I read can be personal preference, but Kuiu sure is highly recommended and I am to interested in what makes these bags worth so much.

The market out there is getting more and more competive each and every day. That is a good thing as long as we have a place to compare them all and get honest reviews and feedback to be able to compare them. It gives us more options. I think a big key on any company is continuing to find innovation and find ways to encourage folks to buy their product instead of from their competitor. If folks don't see the value in what they have to offer they won't sell much of it. Give someone a product they find good value in and they will tend to buy it. I think a big problem out there is being able to compile it all and what really is out there or on the horizon to be able to make wise decisions. Some products do have better value than others.

Good point on the branding and I like the idea of competition. Competition usually makes good business and prices usually reflect competition but I'm not sure in this instant.

Don, that site has been really helpful.

I was trying to decide which light down jacket I would buy as a midlayer to carry in my pack and what to pick for a really lightweight wind shirt. I ended up with the Mont Bell Alpine Light jacket and will probably buy the Patagonia Houdini based on their tests and reviews. Being cheap, I wait to find someone selling last year's model on either AdHunter or eBay.
