Great job Mary! IMHO the 25-06 is one of the most underrated calibers and is great on deer and antelope, especially for ladies and kids that hunt. It bucks the wind better than a .243 and I don't think the recoil is that bad either and why it is the perfect caliber unless you get into bigger game and then I go to the 30-06s. I use a .243 Sako on days with little wind (100 grain Hornday BTSP handloads) and go up to my Ruger M77 25-06 with 117 grain Hornady BTSPs when the wind picks up.

That's awesome 270whiz - I think antelope is the perfect animal for someone new to the world of big game hunting. Can't wait till my kids are old enough to do it!!

Congrats! Antelope is one of my favorite hunts. To me it is just laid back & fun. I also shoot a 25-06, 115 grain Winchester Ballistic Silvertips.

Congratulations to your wife Mary! I have to agree with the folks here in that the 25-06 is an awesome cartridge for that type of hunting up to and including elk. Yes it's a bit light, but use a good bullet and make your shot and it will work just fine. I also am a huge fan of the Ruger #1's!! Very classy rifle and those things shoot. I have two Ruger #1B's in 6mm Remington and in 30-06.

Just for comparison sake, my wifes 25-06 is a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle with a fixed power 6x Leupold scope on it. I use the 120 gr. Nosler Partition in it with IMR4350 powder.

Nice to have your wife as a hunting partner!! David
