Burnt timber hunting

I scouted a place I drew a tag in in Eastern WA this past weekend. It has a lot of old burnt timber from a previous fire and the downed trees are laying in every direction. Its hard to walk 50yd before you have to climb over them. Definitely elk sign in there but can this area be hunted effectively or should hunt in an more open area?

Dam nice bull. the problem with my burnt area is that it has a lot of regrowth , small furs and some timber that didn't burn You area looks like a walk in the park compared to mine. Need to find one like yours to hunt in.

The pic is actually a bit deceiving. It was, and is a jackpot. Not easy walking at all. This area is actually very similar to what you are describing.

I would have to agree with these guys. If you hunt the burn take your time and you will find them. I hunt a burn here in CA for deer and it is way overgrown but the bucks are still in there. It just makes them a little harder to find. Good luck!

Burns are GAME MAGNETS, especially 2nd and 3rd years. Find yourself a vantage point that you can glass from and really work it over with your optics.

Burns end up like any good blowdown area. You just need to find the paths through it that the elk have already found. I miss the days of bow hunting in NE oregon in these exact kinds of conditions.

Yeah, you know some times an ole boy gets lucky!

Hopefully, I'll get lucky again this year in that same burn!!!

According to the outfitter I never did get into the burn area he was talking about. I'll google earth it and I'll be hunting it for sure. Snow sure seems to help when hunting the burn.
