What do you look for in a bullet?

Has anyone used the Nosler Balistic Tip "Hunting" bullet? I'm thinking about using it on my antelope hunt this year. My 25-06 loves the original 100 gr BT but it didn't hold together to well on a deer I shot with it. I tried the the 110 accubond, I recoverd the second bullet from my ram and it had zero mushroom to it, that didn't impress me too much. Not to mention it didn't group as well as the 100 gr BT, it did the job though.
I agreee with the rem Core-lokt, I still have a tough time out performing it at shorter distance, which is usually what I end up with. But for my antelope hunt I want something that shoots like like the BT, the accubond isn't the answer for this rifle.

Have you considered a Barnes TTSX?

I am surprised at the AB experience. That is pretty unusual.

BB, I have not tried the BarnsTTSX. I spoke to the guys at the Nosler factory last year about the accubond. They agreed that my rifle should shoot the 100 gr bullet better. The no mushroom thing is a mystery, I havent taken the bullet to them yet, but it is something they said they would like to see. I always forget to bring it when I go there to buy seconds.

I am curious about what they say. Almost like they bonded the whole core, instead of just the rear portion.

Check out the Barnes. The BCs aren't really high, but not terrible either, and the factory numbers are pretty close, in my experience. On-game performance is pretty great, IME.

I may try the barns too. I will also try to get that bullet in and see what they say.

I personally like bullets with high bc. Speed is not a factor, rather if you reload pick your bullet weight and powder them differently and see what give you the best groups through your rifle. Personally I use Nosler 140 accubonds with a bc of 496..

Although all of my recovered accubonds have a more traditional mushroom look, it does look like the front of that bullet did expand, and fragment, leaving the bonded portion.

Did you strike a lot of bone with that shot?

BB, I'm not real sure. The shot was close, 35-40 yards, I was aiming for the back of the neck as he was trying to get his feet under him. The bullet entered high in his left flank behind the shoulder and ended up in the skin of his throat. I don't recall alot of broken bones, I'm sure the spine was hit in the path. I didn't gut it out, I just skinned/caped and boned him out. Like I said, not alot of broken bones though.

I'm a fan of Nosler's 120 gr BT in my .264 Win Mag from Deer to Antelope it has worked very very well for Me. But better bullets are being made every day. We are experiencing the best there has ever been, But they will continuing to get better.
