This yr will b my first time out west. I'm getting OTC Elk tag for 81. I've done lots of research but would like to hear some insight from some veterans on what to expect. Amount of snow, what to do / not to do, etc. maybe good place to start without giving up ur own honey hole. Any and all will help & be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Study the Colorado Division of Wildlife web site, they pretty much tell you where the elk are located at different times of the season. I plan to hunt muzzle loader so there won't be much difference in elk location between the two seasons. This is a tough unit but it can be productive. Once the shooting starts, the elk hide. Weather should be mild with no snow. If there is snow the elk will leave for lower country at once, I have actually seen them leave in a heavy snow, it quit snowing but they were gone. You can hunt unit 80 too, is that right? Later, I can send you a pm.

Hunted 2nd rifle in 80 last year saw very few elk. Was told that they were bugling days before 2nd season started. I saw alittle snow one morn but that is all. Didn't check out 81 but P&W said because of drought it had been very slow for both 80 & 81
