blame for his death should be placed on the shoulders of those who have hindered the bear hunting in the area.

it is a pity it was not a granola that became bear poop.

It's not that simple Kid; you likely won't have sows being hunted. From the reports, this was a real odd situation as the guys were on horses and didn't get any warning from them. It's not like they were being quiet dragging an elk out, so how were the bears surprised? I also find it strange that at least one horse stuck around long enough for the survivor to ride out on it. The anti-hunters will certainly accept no blame for this, but will just turn it around that there shouldn't be any hunting allowed in grizzly areas.

The latest info from G&F is that they weren't on horseback when they were attacked, and that the hunter walked/ran out of the area.

Coworker of mine was very good friends with him. And i know the country where it happened very well. Horrible incident and a great person for sure.. from some things ive heard there is still things being held back from the public knowledge regarding the investigation. One of my good friends was also on that mountain and ended up finding one of the lost horses a few days later... I don't care who you are or where you are from, if you know somebody's fighting for their life and you run away from it and make ZERO effort to go back especially once you climb onto a horse; you are definitely not someone I ever care to be in the mountains with.

We would all like to believe that we would do what-ever we could to not cut and run, but in today's society, few of us are ever faced with anything more fearful than crossing a busy street or commuter traffic. As a marine, police officer, firefighter, and wilderness guide, I have had numerous encounters that put me in that spot (including being shot at with ill intent), but no one can say for sure what we would do in this case. I tell myself that with a handgun in my mitt that the bear would at least be full of lead, but I am an experienced handgunner, and perhaps this guy wasn't.
The story has evolved and changed, and I don't think we have all of it yet.
