Powder River campground near Buffalo? (Not the Kaycee campground)

In the past I have camped a few times at a campground just off interstate 90 at the Powder River between Gillette & Buffalo. I have lost the phone number and find no info online.

Does anybody have information on it? Is it still open?

I plan on getting to that area late Friday night and need a place to park & sleep.

Thanks for any info,
Randy

Hey Guys,

We will be in unit 23 camping as well, any chance you could PM me the campground info as well? Right now we were just planning on camping on the BLM and did not want to stay as far south as Kaycee. We will be rolling in on Saturday.

Thanks,

Good luck to all hunting the opener today. My hunt was cut short Friday night. Hit a big muley buck about 5 miles east of the Powder River on I90. Spent a few hours at the wayside on the river. Patched up the leaks with duct tape and headed home Saturday morning at 6am. Long drive home. Got it to my body shop this morning. He thinks it is totaled.
Doesn't look like I will be making a second trip.

Hope everyone else has a great time and drive careful!

So sorry to hear this bud. Hang in and plan for next year.
Glad you were able to walk away. Others are not so lucky.

Sorry to hear that Randy. I blew a tire on my motor home a few years ago, and limped into that wayside rest to change it (the inner dual), but ended up spending the night at the campground instead. We drove through that area on the way home last week and saw quite a few lopers off the highway. We have to meet sometime after deer season and see if we have a trip in our future somewhere.

Sounds like a plan Rick. If one of my boys was with we probably would have stayed & hunted. I was skeptical of taking it up in the hills and having more trouble. Couldn't imagine leaving it with 3 rifles my Honda generator and a ton of other gear.
Turns out yesterday when I got it to the body shop the antifreeze was pouring out again from my duct tape patch!
Yesterday was my birthday, my wife & I took a nice drive to see some of the changing leaves. Sometimes it is easy to forget what is really important.

I?ll be out there next weekend. As much as I hate to hear you hit a big buck which ended your hunt, it gives me hope of harvesting one. Got pictures of the deer you hit?

Sorry on the pics, I was pretty shook up at the time. I had a guy who was passing me at time of the collision to avoid so it was about 100 yards or so down the highway before stopping.
The guy stopped & helped calm me down. He was nice enough to follow me to the rest stop to make sure I made it there ok. The world needs more like him.
As far as the buck goes in my split second accessment of him, he appeared to be a high racked 4x4 with a huge body to match. Of course in a private land area of "C", about 5 miles from where there is public on both sides.
Good luck on your hunt,
Randy
