Elk in 58-1

Before I put in for these units was wondering if anyone has any info they would like to share as far as access to public land or it mostly private.

I drive threw this area on my way to watch my son play football in billings and it looks good. Stopped in Dubois last year to get gas on my way back and there were some hunters with cow elk in there truck whole and I know that's no easy task so figure they had to know a rancher or two.

Is it worth my time or is for the locals who know the ranchers that let them hunt? sometimes getting to places new is harder than the hunt itself. I am headed through this area in a couple days.

Any info would be great not looking for anyone's honey hole just general information.

58-1 includes unit 59, I believe, which I hunted during a muzzleloader season. Saw quite a few elk on the National Forest north and west of Spencer. Usually, later in November the elk will migrate south. Plenty of BLM and forest to hunt.
