Well 15 years of applying and still haven't drawn and elk tag in MT. Out of those 15, 4 of them I have been a NR, and I still apply for a coveted area (not the elkhorns) but still makes you wonder if I'll ever draw! Anyone out there draw?

Yes! Our family put in as a party for elk district 621 and drew the rifle tag. After 8 years it finally happened and couldn?t be more excited. This would be my first limited entry tag of any kind

My son-in-law drew an archery elk tag for the Missouri Breaks. A resident family of hunters he knows from teaching some youth camps in MT hunt there frequently with horses and invited him to come along if he could draw. It will be his first hunt out West, though he is an avid bowhunter here in NC. I'm really hoping he gets the bug.

Do you know if they pack in their own drinking water? Wondering what filtering in that country is like.

Depends on the area but most people do pack in there own water. The water in the area has a lot of sediments and clogs filters in a hurry. Or puddles are just plain cloudy

I haven't ever came across a pothole or Creek in 410 that I would want to try filtering, but have filtered water out of the Missouri multiple times and it was great!

Appreciate it Jared. I cruised the river floater forums a bit and those guys haul a week?s worth of drinking water with them when floating, said they wouldn?t drink the river water. I was thinking ?how bad could it be??

I thought the Missouri River water filtered just fine. It was clear, didn't have any unusual taste, and was actually quite cool/refreshing on a hot Sept day! I would certainly do that again vs. trying to haul a weeks worth of water.

Another thing I do that works well if you are by a base camp, is to freeze water in clean, 1 gal milk jugs. As it melts in your coolers, pour the liquid out and you'll have ice cold drinking water.

Later,
Jared

So first limited entry tag I?ve ever drawn...I just received my deer elk general tags (license?) in the mail. Does the limited entry elk permit get mailed later?

The river water filters fine. We still always packed ours in as we never really hunted close to the river. If it rains and you are not near the river it might take a few days for the roads to be passable again.
