While out sighting in my muzzle loader today, and shooting a few other rifles, a chicken walks up to us, and just stand around by us. The nearest house is about 5 miles away, so I got to believe someone road side dumped it. We shot dozens of times, and he just stood right by us. My son feed him some crackers to gain his trust, then I grabbed him. I know a guy that has chicken, so we dropped him at his place. That's one lucky chicken, we shoot lots of coyotes around there. By the frost bite on his comb, I'd say he's spent awhile in the great outdoors.

I'd say a rooster and someone got tired of his cock-a-dodo-do early in the morning.

A funny story about roosters. My brother in law had chickens at one time but go rid of all of them. About 10 years later a rooster showed up in his neighborhood and he was reported to animal control for having a rooster. Animal control showed up and asked him if he had one. He told them that he hadn't had a chicken on his lot for 10 years or so. They left. A few days later he herd the rooster crowing in the early morning and tried to find him but couldn't. A few nights later he found the rooster roosting in one of his fruit trees. He grabbed a fishing net and quickly captured him.

Instead of wringing his neck and making soup out of him he decided to take him down to a fruit orchard 5 or so miles away from his house and let him go. So off him and my sister go in the car with a rooster in a gunny sack. They let him loose at around 12pm that night.

A few weeks later they talked to some people that live in that area and they told him that a rooster had showed up in the neighborhood and was having a fun time crowing early in the mornings. They asked him what they could do to get rid of him. From what he said he just went home laughing all the way.

Silly chickens.. A few years ago, a buddy and I were scouting for turkeys, driving down a gravel road. This chicken comes racing up out of a yard, and is running along side of us on my side, the passenger side, down the gravel road. She's looking real nervous, like she wants to cross.. This goes on for probably close to 200 yards or so, when I say "Drew, slow down, I guess this chicken wants to cross." He slows down to like 5 mph, getting ready to stop, just barely moving. Chicken races across in front of us........ Right underneath the tire. Gets squished, lays an egg. wtf.

Why'd the chicken cross the road? To get whacked by a Silverado, I guess.

In Hawaii the chickens run wild and overrun some of the places. On the big island and Kawai they are every where....and the roosters are noisy. Guess you'd never starve over there, unless you didn't like or got tired of chicken!

I’ve never had a strange yard bird encounter. I did however see a golden pheasant in the middle of the woods one time many miles from any houses. I never have solved that mystery.

Not a chicken but a rooster pheasant. I found a road killed rooster pheasant that had been clipped by a car but was in good shape and not torn up. I took it over late one night and put it in my buddies tree in his front yard so it looked like it had somehow ended up there naturally and died.

Couple days goes by and he never notices it. We had to go out of town for work for a few days. While away my friends wife called him all in a panic. Telling him about this pheasant in their tree in the yard in town no less. She had called a game warden who told her that a hawk or something had likely killed the pheasant and flying with it to a location to eat the bird, the hawk must have accidentally dropped it. Pretty funny!

If my freezer still didn't have a good amount of Antelope, and Elk, I would have thought about it.
But that thing looked rough around the edges, and I'd bet he'd have tasted the same.

In the end it was some good character building for my son, he was pretty proud that we helped that old bird out.

Still laugh about it, look up, and there's this Orange chicken just standing there by the wheel of my truck, lol!

One of my friends said he was probably mean as heck, and someone dropped it off because they were sick of his crap. I said, well living outside for a week or two apparently changed his attitude, lol!
