Finally sprung for a pair and I hope I don't regret it. Tired of buying 2 pair of boots a year. Do yall have any suggestion on break in and care for the boots? Really wanted the uninsulated but the 400 were on sale for 150$ off.

Find the sock combination that works for you. I wear a silk sock liner with the REI expedition sock. Break in period will be somewhere
Between 30 and 50 miles. I broke mine in wearing them in walking around town, hiking etc. as for care of the boots buy a tub of the Kenetrek boot care stuff, it's like a bees wax. I apply it then set the boots in the sun. I do it a couple times a year. I also changed the insole to the Orange superfeet insole. Best of luck

Just like Sneakypete said, find a good sock combo. I have actually had great success with the Kenetrek sock liners and Kenetrek socks. Tried the gore socks this year and it worked very well. Make sure you treat them with the Kenetrek dressing like Pete said as well. I believe the warranty can be voided if they are treated with any other product. I could be wrong.
I wore mine out of the box on a bear hunt. Feet were sore but never blistered. I think it took about 50 miles to break them in. A very stiff boot but worth it. Wear them whenever you can. Good luck and enjoy! Hopefully they work for you!!

As stated, I found that it took me prob 25-30 miles of being laced to break in. I don’t wear a two sock combo. I wear a ultra thin wool sock and suits me fine. You will like the 400g in the cold weather. Great boots.

Yep, wear them every day to work if possible. Also put on a weighted pack and hike around or find some stairs or bleachers. I've been using them for years and love mine. Like stated 30-50 miles and they'll be broken in.

Fit is king!
I cannot disagree, but you can’t really tell how well they fit till you put them to the test. Once you do that they are yours, like them or not. My biggest gripe with kenetreck is they didn’t stand behind their product. Mine leaked from day one and gave me giant blisters well after the suggested breakin miles. I sent them back about the leaking and they said they were too worn out to warranty and they were only 4 months old. They wouldn’t do a damn thing to help me out but try to sell me their socks. By the time they were truly broke in the soles we’re nearly gone, worst boot experience of my life.

I know there’s a huge following for these boots and negative reports are not the norm.

good to know.
wonder if the lack of negative reports stems from folks who dumped $500 on a pair of boots not wanting to admit they was had, or if you just got a bad pair??
company had better be known for outstanding customer service before I would buy a pair at those prices.

not sure it is still possible to get a blister on my foot but I despise wet feet when hiking. think I will stick with my danners

I think there is some truth to that. I know I tried very hard to like mine for that reason.

I wore Kenetrek Extremes for 1 day while working on a steep rocky slope and returned them. It felt like I was on stilts and my ankles were constantly turning. A similar boot that has worked a lot better for me is Lowa Tibets. I pretty much only use my Tibets in deep snow in the winter. I have strong ankles and often hunt sheep/goat terrain with Scarpa Kailash. They are a chunk lighter weight. I tend to cover gobs of steep/rough country and prefer mid-weight hikers similar to my Scarpas to comfortably cover miles and miles each day. My Tibets would work but they are stiff and heavier! Everyone's feet and needs are a little different!

Yes, every persons feet are different. Also I bet a lot of folks don't lace there boots correctly for hiking which causes the issues. Lacing your boots like you do everyday for work isn't optimum for hiking mountains. I like using the surgeon knot. See link below for different ways to lace your shoes.

http://datingwithnature.com/how-to-lace-hiking-boots/

something to think about.

I have been lucky enough ,I guess ,to be one of those that can wear most any boot without issues(so long as size is correct).

don't really remember ever worrying about a break in period . I just wear em. never worried about how to lace em. just do it the way I have since I was two or three years old.. loop it , swoop it an pull. lol
my feet are so callused from so many miles and years of trompin through rocks and rivers, snow an mud, I am not sure it is still possible to get a blister on them.

rest of the body hurts but feet are ok.

and I doubt there is a boot made that I could not wear out in a years time

Mine are also callused and tough. I just got tired of buying $200 boots and they don't even last one season. I tried on a quite few top end and Kenetreks fit my feet the best.

I had a similar experience as timberstalker, got a pair of kennetrek and about the time they were broke in (20-30 miles) they started to leak. But called CS and they told me to return them so the boots could be inspected. A couple weeks went by and i received a new pair of boots and a letter saying my boots were leaking and that these were to replace them. I am now on my second pair of them. They fit me well and work good for me

Last fall while hunting in a pair of Danners after the first few days my feet were hurting big time. I bought a pair of Lowa Tibet GTX uninsulated boots and all I can say is they are by far the best pair of hunting, hiking boots I have ever owned !!! Absolutely no break in period. I couldn’t believe how good my feet feel after hunting in the rough, steep terrain of NewMexico all last season and shed/turkey hunting this spring. I don’t know if there is a better boot for me than these Tibet’s.

I have a pair, wish I had gotten the uninstalled as well as my feet get hot it seems. They seem like high quality boots but for many people they cause a heel rub issue. I simply cannot wear them when I walk long distances without rubbing the back of my heel raw. I have tried multiple insoles and socks with no success. Now I wear them around the house and when I work outside but not for hard hunting.

The rubber piece around the toe of mine came off a couple of years ago which should not have happened on a pair of boots this expensive. And they leak.

I would never even consider buying another pair.
