Morning everybody. I'm new to this site/forum. I am really close to drawing my tag for GMU 201. Has anyone ever hunted this unit or know anyone that has? I have waited a lifetime to acquire this tag and want to make it count! Does anyone have any information on who to contact about this area or possible information I should look into. Any help would be appreciated!

For some reason its not pulling up. Do you have any suggestions on any areas that might be worth my while to research?

I'll be looking for the bull of a life time. 24 or more points is toooo long to wait.

Kind of hard to tell if you are a resident or a non resident unless you have it listed of let us know. It is just that most that post on here looking for help are non residents.

As a resident you should be alright.

201 is very simple in my humble opinion.

Glass all over and cover ground in your scouting. You will turn them up. All the known places you will find on the internet, hold them. Pressure is usually low so the bumping of animals doesn't happen much or as much as other GMUs

Get with the local biologist, scour the internet, utilize the CO hunt Atlas.....and if you want to be selective spend a week before the opener glassing.

Lastly. The summer range, winter range, concentration areas overlap so much due to the terrain and altitude.....depending on the season you hunt.....new or unseen animals will show up while hunting.

It appears there are roads everywhere. So is there actually an "off the beaten path" up there? Guess what I'm asking is everything fairly accessible by atv or foot or would it benefit me to pull horses up there?

Perhaps it is just me but I wouldn't spend that many points on a unit that I have never been into before. Even one that is this small.

I would get up there this coming summer and check things out and then put in for the 2019 hunt.

I agree with JimP. There are some great animals in those units but there are plenty of bulls that are "just normal" as well. It is still going to be hunting and the more time you spend before the season scouting will greatly benefit you. If you are looking for a monster you better get up there even yet this fall and see what the unit has to offer before dumping that many points. My experience is that the internet and magazines have talked up some of these areas so much that most people think that 350 bulls are running around and to expect to see them in quantity on their hunt and that may not be the case. I am just suggesting if you want to hunt 201 then putting some miles on your truck and boots there will greatly help you in your quest. Good luck!

In my opinion no off the beaten path. I wouldn't take the horses. As the last two posts have stated and I bolded and underlined. Scout. If you can get into the unit and spend a lot of time then I'd be doing that ( starting this fall) Who knows maybe that's your plan already. :)

You don't need the horses for hunting, but they could come in handy for packing one out.

Leave the horses at home and go scout it during the time that you want to hunt it the next year. This means that you have to go in while someone else is hunting it. Don't screw up their hunt!!!!!
