WY elk unit 23

Hi Everyone,

I drew a WY elk tag in unit 23 this year and don't want anyone's secret spots just wondering if anyone has hunted it before and what you think about the unit. Thanks for your opinions.

I had a cow tag there a few years ago and didn't see any elk. Saw some tracks but that's it. I hunted on Rattlesnake HMA but the elk pretty much stay over the Mtn on private land until after the season. Guys I talked to said they kill some on the edge of the private land once in a while. Nice unit. Hunted there in 2014 on blm/ walk in areas. Had a great time. Buddy killed a 340+ n i got a smaller 6×5. Not bad for 1st time to area. I would hunt it again. GOTTA SCOUT!!

Thanks guys, I know I'll have a great time and hunt hard took me 7 points on the special draw so I'll give it everything I have. The biologist said there is a lot of bulls on public land just need to work for them. Like everywhere!

The elk in #23 are pretty well educated to where the private property is. They know exactly where to go when all the vehicles start coming in on opening day. I've seen some dandy bulls bedded down on an open hillside about 150 yds. from the BLM. They come back in to the BLM well after shooting hours to feed and they leave well before legal shooting time. There is always a chance to bust one in #23, there are more than plenty of ATV/Pickup "Road hunters" there as well. Good Luck.

I hunted it a few years ago. Good luck, plenty of elk but you might be frustrated with the private issues. Watching good bulls just out of reach. Not a bad unit for a small 6 point wandering around on public, but there is much better in WY for that many points.
