3 Elk points

I think I probably already know the answer to this... But, are there any units for elk in Arizona that are worth applying for with 2 going on 3 points? To clarify, this will be my 3rd year applying in AZ, and my plan has been to just shoot for the moon and put in the for top units. Then, just gain a point until I can realistically draw a max point area. But, are there any units that might be worth trying to burn my points, that I could MAYBE draw with 2?

Unless you can do a LOT of scouting, I don't know that there are really many units that are worthy of just 2 points. I'd say keep applying for some of the moonshot tags for now. Or you could pick a late rifle hunt and maybe get lucky there. AZ isn't a state to necessarily hunt every 3 years but more like 6-20 years, depending on how you apply.

U need to be looking at random odds. There aren't any hunts that you can draw in the bonus pass that I'm aware of. You could have a decent chance at random draw for some of the late rifle tags as was said above

I suggest considering taking the AZ Hunters Safety Course. It will gain you an extra point per species. You will always have them, even after you draw. Its an online course with a few hour long "field day". It can be a hassle for an out-of-stater, but you can make it worth while if you can get some time off in the winter or spring. You already have a hunting license... Plan a January Archery deer hunt, a Javelina hunt, a scouting trip or a any other reason to be in the Phoenix area. I believe Allegiant and Spirit both fly into Phoenix or Mesa. Maybe sign up for a field day that works around a cheap flight. It's a quick way to grab an extra point. Also, after your 5th year of applying you will gain a loyalty point. So, definitely don't miss a year. You could be at 7 points in a couple years. Good luck on your draw.

I am strongly considering exactly that! Would love to find myself in AZ next January.

I don't think it will make any difference if you have that extra bouns point when you consider that there are probably a zillion other applicants that also have that extra point.
As was mentioned above there is always a chance to be drawn in the randon draw no matter how small, every year someone with 0 points draws a top elk tag.

That one point could mean a tag or no tag even if everyone else has it then you are one point behind if you don't have it.

It's like the loyalty point, if everyone else has it what is the difference but a point is a point.

pretty sure you have a chance even with 0/1 point...

I would sometimes apply for the bow tag in a unit I like...and once I started gaining more points apply for the tag as a rifle hunt.
