Hey Guys,

I've got 4 preference points and im thinking about putting in for unit 67 Muzzeloader hut. I've pack-in bowhunted unit 64 four times and managed to call a 5 x 5 to 7 yards for my buddy - which he harvested, and i called in a 4 x 4 for my son - who shot it right in the shoulder - a little blood, but never found it (hate that). It's time for me to be the guy shooting darn it! ;) :):) I guess i like watching my friends and son shoot elk about as much as doing it my self - but it's time....

Anyway - I've never hunting 67 and thought I would check and see what the feedback is. It would be DIY packpack in as steep and deep as i need to as long as there is something at the end of the journey in. Also - does anyone have any expereince with the bears in there? I'm not afraid of hunting with a few bears around, but was thinking about getting a tag. In unit 64 i saw them the last two times i went in to hunt. Would have been an easy tag to fill.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if you have just drove through there. No asking for honey holes or anything like that - I'll earn those on my own! Thank you.

What he said. I'd be staying away from any GMUs around Gunnison and maybe even the Grand Mesa herds next year. That being said muzzleloader 67/66 is a good hunt.

I have quiet a lot of time in there and have never seen a bear or bear sign. Everyone I have talked to said they did not find many deer in deep backpacking country, meaning on the mountain. This may not be the best unit for your type hunting. I do think if you could get in a little scouting, you could find a good shooter. We know winter snow is severe this year, so like others have said do some checking

Thanks for the insite guys. I knew Wyoming was getting hit, but hadn't checked Colorado. I hate to hear mother nature is hitting both so hard. I'll call the office as hoshour recommended once it gets closer.

I really wouldn't worry about the elk getting hit as hard, but I wouldn't expect rut to be as hot and heavy as it should be.
