I hunted the property once as a junior for turkey, nice piece of land. What were the hunt dates? It can get hot as hell down there, hopefully if you get drawn you get some good weather.
Late October.

Did you see any bucks while you were there?

Here is a buck my Godson found on UC property near Smartville. There were no visible signs of how he may have died. The buck had a 27 inch rack but his body was no bigger than a large dog. He turned the location of the buck into the management and they kept the buck. Dandy set of antlers for such a small deer.

IKC, all you need to bring is foil, onion seasoning. Kill it, season it, wrap it, cook it.
It's been in the 100's here too. Freakin HOT! Antelope archery opener in this weekend I believe and it's going to be a hot mofo out there in the desert.

I bet I would get some weird looks if I actually did that. Haha

I've hunted the Hopland propery multple times. Very over hunted, not many deer. They issue tags for the weekends, but people that work there hunt during the rest of week. They might get a few opening weekend. Not much after that.

This is not the Hopland property. I've now heard conflicting stories but I guess I'll find out if I get to hunt the area.

Well got the confirmation email I drew the UC Sierra hunt. Oct 23rd is the day I get to hunt.

In the regs it says no scouting so I guess I'll see what I'm in for when I get there.

Tomorrow is the day. I'll post pics if I get something. Hopes aren't very high for a big buck but I've heard there are lots of deer running around.

Unsuccessful hunt Sunday.

This places used to be a real gem from what I've learn talking to the guy that runs the place. He's been there for 40 years and told me stories of how amazing it WAS.
Just like most things I've heard from Ca the deer do not migrate there anymore and haven't for years, probably from all the houses being built. The deer that have been there are residents and with them selling 100 tags a year they have been way over hunted. The predators are ot of control, imagine that in Ca. Bears, lions and coyotes have killed off all their turkeys and deer.

We saw 3 does that morning and that's it. I looked at the check out sheet and only one Jr hunter killed a small forky that morning. We heard the shot, congrats to him. Other then two of their employees killed two buck when the season opened there isn't going to be much success here.

I have to say I was disappointed but NOT suprised. The stories I was told about this place I was really hoping for a new yearly spot to hunt with a OTC tag if I didn't get anything in the draws but I won't be back.

These folks need to shut down the deer hunts and predator hunt the crap outta their area and get the deer back on track. The place we were told to hunt was just a live the river that you can see in the pics. They have trail cams set up to keep the rifraf out and the first day they had a lion and two cubs on it. We saw lots of bear scat on our hikes so I think they could make up their $5k a year in revenue from the deer to bears and coyotes. If you didn't know you can't hunt lions in Ca.

Oh well like I said not surprised.
