Hey all. First post here. I've been lurking for a while and just joined.
I was wondering if anyone here has had a chance to check out or had opinions on the new prostaff 5 fieldscope. Based on previous thread here I was all set to Pull the trigger on a minox md50 for my backpack hunts but I just saw the new
Spotters from Nikon and I would be willing to stretch my budget the extra couple hundred if its worth it over the minox.
The specs as far as weight and size look Pretty good on the 16-48x60 model.

Welcome to the forum. Hey take a look back through the last couple pages in the Optics I think I remember seeing another thread on this same subject. Might give you the answers your looking for. I have a fieldscope and I love the glass. It's a little heavy but works well for me.

Thanks. Yeah I looked through quite a few spotter threads. The Nikon prostaff I'm asking about is a brand new for 2012 model.

I haven't seen those yet. It is going to be tough to get reviews on them, they are so new. 34 ounces isn't too bad for a 60mm model.

Oh wow 34 oz.? The specs for weight I first saw said 26.5 for the 60mm and 34 for the 82mm. I checked more sites and found different weights some list the 60mm also at 26.5oz and others have it at 31oz. Nikons website does say 34oz for the 60mm and 41 for the 82mm hmmm.... If the 60 mm is really 34 oz. that does change things quite a bit as I already have a spotter about the same weight and looking to cut down in that area.

Yeah I'm sure the Nikon numbers are correct. Looks like its back to the md50. Actually bitterroot, do you know anything about Nikon refurbished products? I may have found a Pretty killer deal on a refurbished ed50.

I own a refurbished Nikon ED50. I love it. They still have the warranty, you just have to pay the flat $20 fee for service. It is no Vortex warranty, but not bad.
