Colorado elk units 80, 81, 82

[Lone Ranger]

I am thinking of booking a hunt with Fishtail Ranch in southern Colorado next fall. They hunt public land in units 80, 81, and 82. Does anyone have any experience or info on Fishtail Ranch. Also, any ideas on how good the elk hunting is in those units.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and i both killed nice elk in 82 this past year , i also killed a 300 class bull in the unit in 07 . Its a good OTC unit if your willing to pack in and can get one packed out ! I hunt it on the years i dont draw a unit 67 tag . I live in alamosa so the huntings only 30mins from my house. Like i said you better be willing to hike like an SOB if your gonna hunt 82 !!!! Lots of pics on facebook hit me up !!!

Thanks for the quick reply. The outfitter says that it is a 2 to 4 hour pack in by horseback. Also, is the terrain there all up and down or is there some terrain that is a little more level? I guess that really won't matter as much since we will be provided a horse and won't have to walk everywhere, but was just curious if it was all up and down or not. hey look me up on facebook @ [email protected] gonna be out of town for a few days ill hit ya up if ya find me !!!!! not as sure about 80 or 81 as far as the up an down but a do know that in 82 the only way to go is up or down !!!!

Hi Lone. I am on the first rifle hunt with Fishtail this year, October 10, 2012. R U on that hunt? There are 8 hunters on this hunt according to Fishtail

By the way Lone, Unit 80 had a 33% success rate for bulls taken with rifles in 2011.

What about early archery season? Any better? Got a buddy that lives In co but works in nm for blm. Recommended 80 81 82. Never set foot on it. Plans fell Thur for wy so looking for a back up
