Horses are always nice, Timberline outfitters in Belmont might be able to do a packout if needed. That country is big, but not seriously rough, unless you get into bulls ;)

Also in that same vein, nothing is more important than good glass. You will be glassing elk miles away at times. ALL other gear is just nice, top glass is number one!

You don't need horses if you got a couple strong backs. Honestly I'd forget table mountain if I drew the tag. Just as big if not bigger Bulls in the monitors, away from all guides and majority of cow elk hunters that all flock to table.

You can hunt table but that's where everyone and the outfitters focus for the most part. Your still gonna have a few cow elk hunters and deer hunters pushin the elk around, but not near as bad as the "famous" table mountain. But then also the elk populations are a little more spread out in the monitors. I'd definitely try and get in several days of scoutin

I plan on hunting the duration of this hunt. I'm scouting the early part of Oct so I can figure out where I want my base camp, Then ill be in there a few days (maybe more) prior to the hunt to get set up and scout some. I hear ya Crzy on good optics and on the lay of the land up there. Its been over 20 years since I hunted 16 so I'm hoping the gas situation has improved. Thanks in advance for your comments.

My pleasure, nearest fuel is still in Round Mountain. Carvers is actually cheaper. Bring lots of gas cans.

I have seen many great bulls in the Monitors, just look in the nastiest most rugged place you wouldn't wanna pack one out of and he'll be there. :)

Tagout looks like I will be hunting there opening weekend. Buddy drew that tag and I just freed up the time at work.

Thanks, just hope it works out. Switching jobs so hope I can keep the time off. Tag, good luck on it. I wouldn't be out there till opening day I'm sure or I'd share info. Hope you get on a dandy.
