I've got a two month old remington 700 sps tactical that I'm having problems with. The trigger when new was about 3 pounds. I've shot four boxes of shells and now the trigger is about 12 pounds. Every box the trigger gets heavier. I've never adjusted the trigger and everything is like it was from the factory. It has a warranty but if this is something common and easy to fix I'd rather just do it myself. Any ideas? Common problem? Thanks.

I understand you wanting to just fix it yourself. Couple of problems. if you do you may void the warranty. You may find what is wrong but not what is causing it to be wrong. Sounds to me like a screw is loose and every time you shoot it backs out a little more. My advice is let the warranty handle it. Remington had issues with a few 700 triggers, but I don't think that issue applies to your gun. Search Remington 7oo trigger failures and you will get the whole story. I have 3 of the older 700's dating back to 1967, and I have never had an issue. Good luck....................

Thanks. I don't want to void the warranty so I'll just take it in. I was hoping someone would say just to blow it out with compressed air and everything would be fine. I have another gun exactly like this one only in .223 and the trigger is really really nice. Crisp and light (3.5 pounds is light to me) but the one I'm having problems with (.308 win) feels about 1.5x's heavier than my glock. Should I just order a jewel or timney trigger or just stick with this one? Like I said, the other one I have is great.

Mine was fine except you could feel it roll off the sear. I bought a jewell and it's nice. Whether it's $200 nice is something only you can decide.

I took it in to the gunsmith. He squeezed it and said "oh the safety is on." I told assured him it wasn't and he just laughed as he cranked on it. Trigger scale said 11.5 pounds lol. He said he would gladly get it to where it should be. Thanks for the advice guys.

I had problems dealing with Remington on a trigger issue and they wanted me to send it back in and the wait time was 3 + months before the could fix it. Ended up just buying a timeney and scrapping theirs

I would be interested in knowing if it was an older 700 and what the issue you had was. There is a whole can of worms around the early 700 triggers, mainly regarding the safety.

After owning several Remington 700's I never had a problem either, until the first one. Gun went off while taking the safety off.
Replaced it with a Timney, best thing I ever did. The Timney is 10 times better than that stock Remington trigger. No creep and breaks like glass.
