I just started flyfishing because I am getting ready to go to school at UNR. So far I have been going for bluegill and bassin ponds, and even some shad in the russian river. Very excited for fishing in the truckee river.
Hey CC! I used to fish there every summer! My family would take a vacation down there and see some of our friends. Great memories and a beautiful place! There are some large pike in that Res. as well!View attachment 13870Just got back from a week of fishing at Vallecito Res (20 miles east of Durango). Fishing was really tough, only caught a few rainbows and Kokanees. The week before we got there it was a wide open bite.....go figure! Fun anyway and got to put some hours on my new pontoon boat.
Pike have just started to get active as the water warms up. Lake is at an all time high and I think there is just too much feed available.Hey CC! I used to fish there every summer! Yes they do hit hard. We trolled mainly. Caught a bunch of hard fighting Bonita to. I got the fly rod out and casted to some schools of Mahi mahi and Bonita. Couldn't get em to take it. They chased and played with it but never hooked up.Nice, I bet those hit pretty hard! Where's the fly rod?
That is awesome! Glad he is hooked!![]()
This little guy has become obsessed with bass fishing, not sure why, he's 3. Particularly largemouth (pronounced wargemouf). He was so pumped to reel in a few tiny bass. I've never seen the kid so happy. He will watch bass fishing on youtube for 30-40 min straight, and he normally isn't still for 5 min. He sat on that dock staring at his bobber for hours at a time.
Thanks. My sister in law got the biggest salmon, her first. I'd love to have a video of the rodeo, she was rather vocal. The picture is of my brother and his two of his three children. We also caught and released 15-20 sturgeon, 4' - 6' footers, if we could keep them, we'd have had a double limit. Some happy faces! Congrats!
Did y'all see where that little boy caught that 11 foot white sturgeon? Just making sure that's not your boy Tim?Thanks. My sister in law got the biggest salmon, her first. Thanks. Not my boy. I've seen them up to 12', but anything over 9' is a river monster as far as I am concerned. We fished for them in an area where anything over 7' is rare. That was plenty big for a few hours of catch and release for our group.Did y'all see where that little boy caught that 11 foot white sturgeon? Just making sure that's not your boy Tim?
Y'all had an awesome trip. Congrats.
That's actually a funny story. The whole week we were there the ocean was rough...I mean real rough! We weren't able to go out. Instead we staged inside the pass and let the kids swim and find sand dollars , star fish, and scallops. Can't keep the scallops in Panama City because they've been over harvested. Kids had a blast. The last full day we went out 9 miles because it wasn't as rough. I took all 3 of my boys with me including my brother and one of his kids. We literally got to the wreck and was dropping the anchor and my 12 year old and 7 year old started heaving Dunkin Doughnuts over the side of the boat. I vidoed both of them and it was cruel but it was the funniest thing ever. I wish I could post the video for y'all to see but my phone won't let me even text it. So needless to say after chuming(lol) the fish unfortunately we had to leave. I took the boat straight to the condo and made all the sick kids swim to shore to go back to the room. It was only 8:30. Mama was still asleep when they showed up at the door. I called her so don't think I'm completely heartless. The rest of us carried on but decided to just troll instead of going back out. Good thing we did cause a big storm rolled in. Oh well I will send grouper pictures next time.Matt, where's the pictures of that giant grouper?
Yeah for sure. But it was all good. I'll get ya a Grouper next time. I will have to leave my "chumers" at home. Lol.Sounds like one of those trips! Lol
Nice job. Congrats!
