California x-9a

[B&C Blacktails]

Anyone ever hunt x-9a in California. A unique subspecies the Inyo mule deer. If I don't draw early season rifle in CO I am going to use my four points on this hunt Sept 19-Oct-12, pretty early for a mule deer rifle hunt!

Don't know if I'd call them unique......they are just mule deer. The hunt is okay if you know where to concentrate. Some locals do well there.

I was lucky enough to get drawn this year for the tag. We spend a lot of time up in the June lake area, so I am already scouting but if anyone has any suggestions of spots I am a good listener hehe...

It's a good zone and a really good zone when the early snow comes! Have spent a lot of time in X9a and X12. Nothing unique about the deer, just mule deer. They like the high country when it's warm and migrate lower when it snows.

I've been checking forecasts and there has been fresh snow around 10,000 feet with all the recent monsoonal moisture. Maybe it'll keep the bucks a little lower? I'm going to skip most of bow for the B zones and scout for x-9a.
