KUIU backorders

Why all the union hate? Union membership has gone down because states have systematically whittled down any power they might have once had. Why join a powerless organization? Funny how people rip on unions but don't care about the 50 million the CEO makes. CEO to average worker wage has gone up 100 fold in the last 50 years.

Btw, I've always been non Union.

If you watch the video from Kuiu they say nothing about a union shipping port problem. They just cant keep up with the demand.......

Also with the western hunt expo coming up in Utah I would imagine they will have a lot of inventory there to sell like last year.

Unions aren't my favorite either, they were created long ago and have outlived their use. Now they just cause problems. I see it daily...
Are you glad you get to take time off to hunt every year? Might want to be thankful for unions. There are a ton of people that give unions bad names though.

I just cancelled my Kuiu order for a jacket because they can't say when the jackets will be back in stock. Then I ordered a Sitka jacket from Balck Ovis 20% off with free shipping and they shipped it two hours later via UPS. That is the problem they can't keep stuff in stock. They make a great product at a fair price but if they can't keep things in stock then people are going to go elsewhere. There are a few different companies now that make great mountaineering type hunting clothing.

Just a thought but aren't most major ports in big cities? Doesn't this mean extremely high cost of living? I don't think 147k a year is a whole heck of a lot of money in LA or the bay area.

I guess I am out of touch with what wages should be, if the average for a job is $147,000 plus a free cadilac health plan that cost the employer $35,000 per year per employee. and this is the average for the west coast longshoreman.

$147,000 a year in a major metropolitan area is crazy good money in my eyes. I live in in a "metropolitan" area and the cost of living can't be much different here. If I was an average employee making that much average money doing a below average job(whining about not making enough money and striking about it) I'd be thanking my lucky stars. I'm probably no different than "90%";) of the average joe's on this forum and in my eyes have one of the dangerous jobs a guy could have(underground mining) and don't make near that amount of money a year and am still greatful for my yearly income. You can't tell me being a dockworker is any more dangerous or strenuating than what I do, and these guys are whining about only making 150K a year? Wake up. That's my rant thanks for listening fellas.

I'm sorry your kuiu jacket is more important than people's livelihood. The CEO has a contract, why shouldn't the rest of us have one? I'm sure they aren't asking for anything new rather fighting for something they once had. I don't recall too many pensions being increased while you're working or after you retire. Cut them some slack. Imagine if you retired with 1M in your 401k and then one day the company took back half of their matching contributions.

actually it has nothing to do with a jacket, it has everything to do with how the longshoreman are screwing the rest of the country. Apple packing plants are laying off people, because the exports are not going out.

The maritime association offered to increase pay to $162,000 a year average, pension from 80,000 a year to 92,000 a year and continued Cadillac health coverage, that allows the longshoreman to never pay a penny out of there pocket. The longshoreman won't strike, so they call in sick and only half show up to work, and than the longshoreman just don't do much in the day. The longshoreman won't strike because they won't get paid if they do. So they are getting paid to do nothing, but screw with the American worker. The crews on the boats being stuck at anchorage for a month with nothing to do. Completely screwed up. in 2002 bush stepped in, 2015 will not see Obama step in.

How do they get away with that and not get canned? And people support having union's that behave like this and condone behavior like this? This sounds like a legitimate outfit that should stay in business. It might cost a bit more but if I were conducting business with a group like that I would take my business elsewhere. What more could these guys want?

I really don't think the kuiu guys are hurting for money though, not by any means. not with all the exotic hunts going on. and good for them. I just want my stuff:)

The average software enginer makes $82K in LA, according to Payscale.com. The average lawyer there makes $101K.

The fact that a guy doing manual labor, no college degree required, makes twice what a software engineer makes ($167K offer above vs. $82K) is an example of how much more people make who have a very strong union. Whether that is good or bad depends on your perspective.

Most manual labor potions require a 4 plus year apprenticeship. Which involves manual work as well as book work. Just because it isn't a college degree doesn't mean it's not worth anything. College degrees are becoming a dime a dozen. Everyone is going to college because the media makes it seem that if you don't, you can't have a career. This is a load of bull. Can a college degree help? Of course but some positions in the workforce require on the job experience more than a piece of paper that says you read a out how to do it in a book.
