Hey guys
I'm getting things situated to head to the sooner state for my first turkey hunt of the year. I've always hunted the eastern birds in the southeast part of the state but have decided to head out west and do a little rio hunting this year as I've heard lots of good things about it. I have ordered the onXmaps hunting chips and am going to make a final decision on either the Oregon 600 or the etrex 20. The etrex appears to be great value especially if the main thing you really use your gps for is to check land boundaries. The Oregon appears to have a little bigger screen which is a touch screen and has a few more options that look cool but in reality is it worth double the price for options I'll probably never even really use? Plus the etrex shows 25hr battery life compared to the oregons 16.
I'M also going to be doing a scope comparison once I get to cabelas in ft worth. I hope to compare the cabelas euro, Swarovski, and vortex razor. These 3 appear to all have great warranties and that's important to me. Of the three I predict the swarvo will be the top, the euro will be almost exactly the same at better price, and vortex slightly behind but about as good as you can get without paying over 2k. They said on the phone they had a chart indoors and I could take it outside to compare. I'm crossing my fingers there is a 1-2 mile area with something to view in the evening to really get a good comparison. I'm leaning towards the 80mm plus because most glassing will be from vehicles as I usually just carry binos on hunts. Plus majority of the time I'm using them is in low light early morning or late evening conditions when light gathering is essential. I have to admit the 65mm size is more appealing though and if I feel like I can see 90-95% as good with them I'll get the smaller size but I'll guess I'll have to wait to find out. I also would like to do more backcountry hunting in the future also so I know size is important. I found a used 25-50x65mm swarvoski ATS on ebay that I believe may auction off around 1500. If the that scope looks great in the store are there any pitfalls I should worry about with busying used on ebay?
I hope to update this as I go along and if anybody has any questions or will be in the area feel free to chime in.
Thanks Luke
