So I'm wondering about the red desert herd in general the 100 tag covers a big area, but does that herd over flow into any of the surrounding sage flat areas like 98, 99 or 118? or is the herd more centralized in the unit?
Just more curious than anything I guess. I did call the biologist a few days ago, but haven't heard back.

I've seen elk on the north side of highway 28 looking to cross into 100 from 99 and a bull was just hit on i80 crossing from 124 to 100 or vice versa. The elk are everywhere in 100. I almost think that white Mtn elk (west of RS and highway 191) should be a different tag than 100. Highly overlooked part of 100. In fact, one of the bigger Bulls killed out of that unit was coming off the green river

There is some movement of elk between 100 and 118 (especially during the hunting season), but 118 is mostly made up of a few smaller herds that move around the area, with most of the area being completely devoid of elk. As far as comparing 100 to 118, it's just apples and oranges. 118 is a marginal elk area at best. There was talk a few years ago about changing the boundary of 118 to extend into what is currently 100, but so far nothing has come of that suggestion. I know you asked more specifically about 100, but I have only ever hunted elk in 118 out of the areas you mentioned.

I guess that's part of the curiosity is if there would be huntable herds in surrounding units. I have heard some good things about 118. I also just read one of the biologist was surprised that the boundary change in 118 hadn't taken effect this year so it sounds like that is actually on the books to change in the near future.
