Though I knew what I was gonna do but now I'm not sure.

Assuming I draw the deer tag in Utah (95% odds) I'll be going out for the opening archery week. I may not hunt it till that Monday to weed away a few hunters though.

My initial plan was to Draw UT and try to get an easy draw NV deer as well. I still like this option

I also like the option of grabbing an OTC elk tag in UT, WY, or CO and hunting the last week of august into sept. depending on the state.

I'm just not sure. I know I'll be getting a second tag somewhere. I'm not driving 20+ hrs each way for one tag!!!

What do you guys think? I'll be solo so I know that really limits the elk options in that warm weather. But a cow elk or small bull would be a fun hunt too. Since I'll be in UT anyway I was looking at getting a wastach spike/cow or a North Slope General elk.

Co im looking at a few units.

Wy I have no idea on elk, could do pronghorn again but I would only want to hunt south WY.

Thoughts?

I wouldnt worry about getting more then 1 tag. Get a tag somewhere and find some other areas that interest you and go scout them. No tag and no pressuring yourself trying to fill it. Take a coyote gun along and have some fun in some new country!

So how long of a trip do you think you'll do? Maybe you should research a few different OTC hunts and then just "wing it." If you shoot something or want to do something different, have an option or two already researched, then just go to that state, buy the tag and hunt.

idk I know I can pull 14 days off work...but itll take 4 days of driving to get there and back.

the option of a few different units is a good idea. It looks like Utah has otc tags for sale for a while so if I get into cows close to the road while deer hunting I may take a day trip to town to buy a tag

I think I'd put all my effort into killing your UT deer, then if you happened to smack one early in the hunt, head up to ID, or Northern CO, and buy an OTC elk tag, if you like the country that you see.

Idaho! Why would you say such a thing! the point was to narrow down my options not give me more!!! Oh well, another 3rd shift in the snow tonight to think about it ;-)

Whatever else I do will have to be an otc tag so at least I have some time

The Uintas are as beautiful as they come and so much fun to fish and hunt. You just really have to put in work at getting away from people. There are roads and trails that go everywhere. It kind of sad to be honest, they have made it way to easy to access and people are just leaving their trash everywhere.

NDhunter has a good idea. Work on the tag you draw with some options you can do if you fill it early. Coming as far as you are though and not having lots of vacation time I would just worry about filling one tag so there isn't so much pressure on yourself.

Depending on where your going to be hunting deer in utah, you could buy an elk tag and hunt them at the same time.

Shoot me a pm if you have more questions and ill help you out as much as I can

Whoops, sorry about that! There's no elk in Idaho anyways, all the woofs got'em, and the lions too. So I guess you can scratch that off your list..
