GA is no easy task for a guy who has never seen one much less ever hunted outside of his state. I have contacted maybe 10 game wardens, 15 chamber of commerces, and a heap of landowners(all parties have been more than polite). Most nights I have had 5 to 7 tabs open jumping from random draw odds, special draw odds, pp draws, blm maps, and tax assessors maps. Not to mention the countless hours of inter web surfing which has landed me a membership with this forum.

To which I would like to say Thank You to the guys and gals who offer advice. Every time i google "wyoming antelope unit whatever" eastmans is usually in the top three of results. I have a new found appreciation for the work you non res have put in. Hopefully I will update pics of a buck come fall or at least the awesome landscape.

Welcome to EF! A lot of knowledgeable folks on here. I've spent a little time in 53 and 98. Good luck on your research, it actually gets pretty addicting.

welcome aboard,

Allot of good hunters with allot of knowledge on here. You picked a good critter to start with for an out of state hunt. You should have loads of fun and be successful.

Do you have any points yet? What units are you looking at for this fall? Welcome to the forum!!
I dont have any points this year. I was kind of naive to the whole process.
I am content with the option of little to no public land and or trespass fee. So Im in the process of contacting landowners in easy draws and researching blm. Im cautiously optimistic about my chances, I just have to keep plugging away.

If you do your home work you can find a lot of opportunities with small trespassing fees. With no points this is your best bet Also if you contact Wyoming game and fish they will send you a landowner list, this list is a good starting place.

Well I would definitely apply for a hard to draw unit with the PP option, putting an easy draw unit as your 2nd choice. That way you can begin to accumulate points and still hunt your 2nd choice. I can't really help you with units to look at that you can draw with 0 points. I know there were a lot of leftover tags in those North Central/North Eastern units. 10,15,16.17,19 ect....

If you are gonna attempt to hunt these low % of public land units, I would recommend the GPS landowner chip for sure. I recommend it regardless. I wish ya luck, if there's anything I can help ya with just ask.

10-4 cobb, def need that chip right? Even if I do acquire a trespass fee area I planed to get the wyo chip. I wouldnt trespass intentionally but from what I have read its not hard to get on the wrong land and those scattered checkerboards blms even if accessible cant really be navigated without. Right?

Yes, get the chip. It will help tremendously, its a must have!! Call the Casper BLM office and buy the maps needed for the unit you choose as well. It will probably take 3-4 for your unit, but they are only $4 each and we used them a lot out there.

I have heard that the landowner lists from Game and Fish are dated and having called one of the lists myself a couple years ago, I would say that a few of the numbers are no good but most still are.
Thats true. So far all GW's I spoke with have advised I use the tax assessors office. Its a process but a guy without the foresight to accrue points determined to hunt its the only route I got.

Dirtfarmer take a look at unit #7. Last year the draw odds were around 21% with 0 points. I've hunted this unit many times, I could give you some advice if you go in this area.

I purchased a leftover unit 22 tag last year. Called the office in Sheridan and they emailed me a list of landowners that allowed a trespass fee for antelope. I had to go down the list several times before I got a couple hits. Most of them were already full when I called and as said before, some of the numbers were disconnected. I would suggest starting to call now and not wait until summer like I did.

It wasn't a great experience but it was a antelope hunt on a leftover tag so I was able to gain a point. 3 of us were also all successful.

You can PM me if you would like and I can fill you in with details...
