We had a wirl wind of a 3 day trip to Ely to hunt cow elk. A 5 hr drive from Reno on fri really only gave us Sat to hunt. My wife works for UPS and its that time of year. We went to my area to have a look around on Fri evening and didn't see anything. Checked into our room, got up early the next morning and got to a spot I had scouted back in 06 for my Bull hunt that we had seen lots of cows. Didn't see and elk so went on to the second spot and found two cows on a hillside. We watched them bed. My wife and daughter loaded up the packs and headed up the trail. We got to 800 yards from the bedded cow but I wanted to cut the distance as much as possible. I wanted to get to 400 but we only made it to 680 when I realized the wind had changed to my back going rite toward the elk. I got into position to make the shot. It took a minute or so to get calculated and scope dialed in. When I put the scope on her she was gone. We where all very disappointed that it didn't work out and we all knew that this was probably going to be our only opertunity and it was. We made a 2 mile hike up to get to this point and had a great time getting there. We took some photos of ourselves to remember the awesome country we where in and to enjoy our short time elk hunting.
I really love that my girls where with me and made my time on the mountain much more fun then if I was on my own or hunting buddy's. We hiked down to the truck, had some lunch then kept on going. We ran into two 180" bucks that really cheered us up. Great times with the ones I love. Family First!
