Hey saw, hibernation? From what I understand these bear in our neck of the woods don't hibernate.
Maybe they are just hiding when I am up there (LOL). We used to hear something every so often about the huge "edge habitat" bears in Southern California. The theory was that it is too warm for bears to hibernate, so they grow much larger because they feed year round. Unfortunately, the record books do not support that theory. I have seen some really big bears that came out of the San Gorgonio Wilderness, but when we have weather mild enough for bears to stay out all year, we also have the eco-tourists tramping all over the place. Since DFW stopped the bear hunting with dogs, the hunting has gotten a lot tougher. As of today, the YTD bear kill is 1,251. I think we will miss the quota again this year. However, there are more bears in the woods, than at the office, so it might be worth one more trip before the season closes on the 28th.
