Need some late season gloves options

I’m planning for a late November northern Canada moose hunt where temps will be below zero and not too much above. I need a pair of gloves. I have a pair of thick wool and leather chopper mitts that I’ll bring but would also like something a bit less bulky with fingers. I don’t want KUIU or Sitka $100 gloves. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a good insulated tough leather glove that I could use while trudging through snow. Something nice and insulated but also tough to use for other “camp” chores. Maybe I’m thinking 2 different gloves here, but what would you guys recommend. I don’t know how the coldgear from UA or some of the other better known brands would do…?

Hope would the regular old wool glovmitts work?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have had good luck with farmer's coop stores in various area for gloves. They have leather insulated gloves. You might have to waterproof them or something for the snow. They usually have a pretty good selection. If it gets really cold sometimes I'll put a liner glove under the leather ones. What works for my work is a cotton glove inside of a thick rubber glove. I don't know brands, but hopefully it was some help.

Carhart makes a good leather glove with flannel insulation. I use it to cut wood and other chores when I am in Iowa visiting the family during the winter.

Youngstown makes a waterproof Work Glove that seems to have pretty good dexterity.

I prefer to layer. Under Armour makes a liner/runner glove that works awesome as the first layer then my other gloves go over. Allows me to use gloves instead of mittens and keep my hands warm. I can take the bulkier glove off and not freeze my hands if I need a little more dexterity. They wick sweat away well and I have been doing this for about 6 years. It's my go to for cold weather hunting like calling coyotes or late season elk.

Thanks guys for the good information. I'm definitely going to check out that leather glove by marmot. I'll also have to consider the liner system and will check out the other suggestions as well. Thank you.

when I lived in Alaska, I would use this system for real cold weather. Very thin liner glove, BOILED wool mittens, and an overmitt. Good to -40.
the marmot leather work gloves have been good to me, use them snowmobiling a lot, I do understand there is a difference between chores when it is cold and being in the extreme cold for days on end. If you know any north slope workers, what are they using?

I'll echo what Tim said. I use a three layer system with very thin wool liners. We use Manzella for the mid and a gortex shell for the outer. Honestly I rarely utilize all three.
For chores I'd consider taking along a good pair of Atlas Fishing Gloves. I've worn these in some pretty cold & wet situations and have never been cold.

Which Manzella gloves do you use?

You cant beat wool. I use SmartWool merino wool gloves with wool/thinsulate glove mitten over the merino wool if needed.

Currently wearing the TYPHOON and Gortex STEALTH, I have both in my gear bag.

If I were buying them myself for cold wx I think I'D try the Mastodon or Tundra

Thanks for all the info everybody. I've researched a lot and have learned a lot... here's some seriously good options:

Black Diamond Gloves and Mitts
Boiled Wool (like someone mentioned)
Duluth Pack Mitts
Hestra Mitts
OR Mitts

I'm not sure my exact set up yet but it'll be something with a light merino wool liner, heavier wool mitt, and outer leather mitt or something close to that. Lots of good options but not cheap like usual. Thanks for the info!

Kuiu Guide gloves are 25% off for the next 4 days. I would consider that. You are going to be spending $50 on most of the gloves you listed.

I agree, even at the coop you are looking at $50+, and good gloves are worth it. When my hands get cold I get miserable. Gloves can sometimes make or break a day. By agree, I mean I might have do some shopping myself.

$52 out the door for the Guide gloves with shipping. I have been looking for gloves for my late Nov elk hunt and I havnt been able to find anything decent under $40 at Sportsmans or Cabelas. I love all my other Kuiu so I snagged these up. I have heard nothing but good things about the guide gloves.

When I was guiding I was turned onto ragwool gloves and I will never turn back, I love them an even when wet they are warm always have a few sets in my pack, but watch it the mice love them ha

If you get meat from the store then dont criticize me for having the courage to go out and kill my own meat
