Wyoming Elk area 96

I'm getting excited as I will be up there next week. I have done my scouting this summer and have a couple of areas on the north edge of the unit that are a hike in from any atv or two track roads. I kind of feel like a mooch asking this but I was just wondering if anybody had been up in that area bow hunting recently and could give me a little more recent scouting report. I have Parent/Teacher conferences where I teach and my wife's birthday (If Momma ain't happy then nobody is LOL) this weekend so I will miss the opener but I will be up there next weekend! PM me if you are more comfortable sharing that way.

Just got back. Cut the hunt short do to warm weather and the fact that opening weekend pressure has pushed all the elk back into the wilderness area far enough that you need 4 legged drive to reach them. Lots of sign but its old. Hoping for some snow and weather over the next couple of weeks to maybe push them back down. Turned into a glorified scouting/camping trip but covered a lot of the north part of the area and burned up a lot of boot leather. Every time I'm up there I learn a little more and I'm starting to pick out travel patterns and see saddles that don't really show up well on google earth. Saw a lot of deer and some great bull moose as well. Gonna go back up if the weather turns or will I will have to wait till Nov go after a cow. Either way it's a lot of fun!

Good luck and I am hoping for a little weather too.
Love that area but you are not only playing the draw odds but also the weather odds. Without horses to get back up in the wilderness area a ways you are stuck watching the weather channel a lot. Talked to an outfitter that was taking clients back up in and he was going about 6 miles past the wilderness boundary. That would have made for a 8 to 10 mile one way hike in for us. Hard to do that on a 4 day hunt! It takes more then one good snow to bet them moving down. Last year we had snow the first of November but the elk really didn't move down until almost the 3rd week of Nov. I guess the frustration is part of the fun. LOL
