Headed to the Kaycee area on Monday. here's a few questions I thought of in the last few days.

1. How's the weather? I looked online and it looks like its gonna be a beautiful opening week of rifle.

2. I was watching an Eastman's video and I keep seeing it show them chamber a round. Is it legal to stalk with a round in the chamber? Do they just like to show off their fancy, pretty bolts? (I would too) What's the point to this?

Looks like the weather will be mild . . .

Obviously it's good gun safety to keep your muzzle in a safe direction at all times. There's no rule against chambering a round while hunting. . .

Personally, I don't chamber a round unless I'm actively pursuing game and the possibility exists to run into game. This of course is highly dependent on the situation, whether your spot and stalk, still hunting, or sitting a water hole or travel corridor. It's just a personal choice. I have been busted at least once without a round in, but I had not chambered on in the interest of safety while climbing up a steep mountain. I still see that buck.

If your are stalking game, put a round in first! That's hunting! Just be safe!

It really depends on the situation but I generally dont chamber a round until Im on the final part of my stalk and I think there is a good chance I could be shooting soon and I dont want to take a chance spooking the animal(s) chambering a round when I get to here I expect to shoot from. Still hunting or sitting a water hole I never chamber 1 unless I am expecting to shoot soon. If Im hunting with my old lever action I might chamber 1 sooner because I can put it on 1/2 cock and it is safe. I dont know of any laws against chambering 1 anytime when you are on foot but its not worth the safety risk to me and I wont hunt with anyone that walks around all day with 1 in the chamber.
