Wy draw/pref point question

I'm hoping someone can help me and answer this question. I've hunted Region H of Wyoming several times, but always just made all my choices H. My question is: I have 2 pref points, if I make my first choice G and my second H, and don't get G but do get H as second choice, do I lose my pref points? What are my odds of G with 2 points? Odds of H as a second choice?

I have looked at the pref points/draw results at the Wy G&F website, but I'm not sure I'm understanding it. Thank you to anyone that can help!

You will not lose your points unless you draw 1st choice. While you could have drawn Region G with 2 points 3-4 years ago now you will only have about a 6-10% chance in the regular draw and a 12-15% chance in the more expensive special draw. It has gained a lot of popularity over the last few years. You won't draw Region H as a 2nd choice in the regular draw but you could have a chance if you put up the extra money for the special draw. Your points don't count toward second choices so you would be behind those with 0 points that list Region H as their 1st choice.

Thank you for the info! I didn't realize I'd be behind those with zero points, I guess I should put in for H if I want to hunt there next year......

Yes Matt, although the last 3 times there I was looking for "any" buck as I was guiding my kids and acting as their pack mule, lol. I have never really seen anything large there, occasionally someone will get a buck larger than 26", but the majority of the bucks I was seeing were just smaller. Since I was taking my kids I wasn't really getting too far off the beaten path, so maybe I just need to try to find some areas that are not as easy to get to.

578 people applied for G in the Special Draw with a 0% success rate. 3 points was 98%.

Only 75% of tags are preference tags. Once the 75% are issued everyone else left, regardless of points has equal chance to the remaining 25%.
