Massive bear

Just back from bear viewing...this guy is estimated to be nearly 1400 pounds. You might see a bigger bear someday, but you don't need too!

Good lord....it looks like the obesity epidemic is spreading to the animal kingdom. Any closer and he probably would have weighed in the 1600 range.

I'm no expert on bears, but this one looks really old. Scars, muzzle and face just look like he (guess it's a male) he been around awhile. Massive claws....

Thanks all...this bear is at McNeil refuge. Unhuntable but arguably the finest place on the planet to study bear behavior, which may come in handy next spring.

The biologists figured this old boar at 22+ years, which is old in the bear world. The unusual penis sheath and testicle area on him apparently is the result of a fight...I didn't walk out and poke around there to find out, call me a chicken if you must! I watched him argue with another really large bear but no one wanted to fight with him that I saw, including me!

I thought the same thing. Was wondering if it was just a weird angle on photo or if he was that well endowed? Lol.
