Good morning all. I drew the tag above and have spent the better part of a week in there scouting. I have had a tough time finding decent bucks. I have spent a considerable amount of time on the western half of the unit near CR26 and CR24, as well as CR19. I was able to find some antelope north of CR24 near CR72 and also quite a few off of CR19. I'm just not seeing the quality of bucks I was expecting. I plan to spend the next couple days on the eastern side near Cow Creek Reservoir and that area. Any suggestions from people that are familiar with this area? I'd really like to be able to kill a solid respectable buck after waiting that many years. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Can you give a rough idea of what a "respectable buck" is to you? Describe the type of buck you're looking for...length, etc.

You should take time to introduce yourself. Most likely not going to get a lot of response if this your first post. Keep looking they are there! I helped a buddy there in 2011. The bigger bucks were in areas you would expect to find Mule Deer. Small cuts not visible from the county roads. He took the attached buck ( He did not score it but over 16 inches on both sides) on the NE corner of the unit. We were seeing bigger bucks every day and I urged him to pass on this one but we both had deer tags and he wanted to start that hunt. The day after he killed his buck we found one that would have scored well over 80 inches on the West side of the unitWyoming Deer 2011 014.jpg.

I'm definitely looking for a buck that has it all. Length, mass, prongs. A B&C buck for sure. I've killed numerous small bucks in the past and have waited quite a while for this tag and would like to make it worth the wait. I've checked many water holes and other areas which seem promising. And although I'm seeing a decent number of bucks, I'm not seeing the big ones I'm looking for.

No matter what unit you are in, there are not a lot of B&C bucks. The harder you look , the luckier you'll get....

Anthnichols,

I have hunted that unit a couple times for deer. I saw some interesting buck pronghorn to the SW of Kinney Rim along alkali and vermillion creek. There are usually quite a number of them where you plan to spend some time near cow creek and shell creek too.

I also think the pronghorn in the desert can be tough to field judge, at least they are for me. My wife has shot 3 B&C bucks out there, the longest one is just a pinch over 15, the other 2 are just shy of 15 inches. IMO, all three of those bucks looked shorter than that, due to mass and some curl, not to mention that those bucks are very big bodied in that area as well.

I shot one near the area you're hunting last year, and I struggled with pulling the trigger, even though I knew it was a very good buck. Again, the mass is what I finally settled on as the deciding factor. I guessed correctly...84 7/8 gross 83 6/8 net. The long horn was 15 5/8.

I've taken 1 over 80" buck in unit 63. Barely breaks 14 in length but the mass and huge cutters is what got him there. Length looks great but the other factors get you there faster

Thanks for all the help guys. I was able to locate a couple of good bucks down near the Cow Creek Reservoir and 1 just south of CR19. Hopefully they cooperate when season opens. Best of luck to all that scored tags this year.

Thanks again
