Well I drew a type 1 tag for Unit 45 / Elk in the Bighorn mountains. Extremely lucky as i had no points and just put in via the special draw. I never hunted in WY but Im really looking forward to the trip.
Right now my plan is to be there for the archery season which opens for me on the 15th of September after spending a week or more learning the area in July / August. My real questions is should i bring a couple of horses or just an ATV or both? I would like to get away from the crowds as best i can and will not be taking a bull unless its a nice one. I've killed plenty of elk over the years with my bow so I'm going more for the outing while seeing some beautiful country and looking for a nice bull. Any ideas on the area or pointing me to a good area to start to research would be great. I'm likely going solo so I will be hunting in the NF and not wilderness.
