Anybody have any experience hunting unit 16. The MRS makes it look tempting, but the public land access looks tough. Anybody have insight on whether or not the landowners are open to permission to pass though or how well the walk in areas are?
Thanks in advance for any advice/insight!

The Q owns just about all the private land that isn't public in 16....or at least they are trying! The Q actually bought the Difficulty Ranch that was originally part of one of the HMA's this year. The Difficulty Ranch was roughly 60% of one of the HMAs. Now there is a fraction of the HMA acreage to hunt. This year the little HMA acreage that is left got hammered pretty hard by public hunters. The Q watches their boundaries like a hawk and there is no access to public through their land...other than the county road that access's Shirley Mtn. If you want to hunt guided on the Q you ought to do well but the public gets hit pretty hard.

I have zero interest in 16 after last season. If I ever went back, I'd learn and focus on Shirley Mtn. We put all our eggs into one basket, aka the HMA, and it turned out to be a joke. The game warden told me, "It's as good a place as any." Well, if that's true then the whole area must be terrible. My advice is to stay away from the Beer Mug and hunt the Shirleys.
