Cover lots of ground and get away from the roads. Get a gps with a public/private map chip. Was quite a bit of private where we hunted and a gps would have helped tremendously. Hunted W in 2011, all the better bucks we saw were in or very close to Aspens. The buck in the picture on my avatar was killed during that hunt.

Region W is pretty big. I hunted that region for years and decided not to go back. We were just north of Baggs... Just way too crowded where I was. Quads and vehicles everywhere....not my cup of tea. Congrats to you on a great buck!!

Great deer!

I'm planning on deer hunting region w next year, any good spots to check out appreciated :)
Start looking at maps and find areas that fit your hunting style. You can hunt the low elevation open sage, aspen draws, or go higher and hunt the timbered mountains. Glass until your eyes hurt, take a break and glass some more. I hunted the area in 2011, tagged a good buck, but not sure if I'll go back. Lots and lots of hunters, atv's and side-by-sides. Was hard to get away from the roads and other hunters.

Thanks Ridn9high, I have done a fair bit of internet research and found some good looking spots both up high in the timber and lower down in the sage. But there's nothing like first hand local knowledge.

I'll be bow hunting early Sept so planning to start high, should be good to avoid most of the crowds too.
