I have a buddy who has never been mule deer hunting before only been white tail hunting for 2-3 years not i believe, we talked about heading to wyoming and he finally said yes so we are going to hopefully grab a leftover M tag. Leaning toward unit 40 maybe toward the base of the Horns any advice for a newbie to that area? Plan to get a BLM map right away also and hit some BLM land.

Anything in area 40 that looks like easy access is probably going to be pretty crowded. The closer you hunt to Ten Sleep the more people you are going to run into. Get ahold of the WGFD Cody region headquarters ask for the landowners list and try to get access to some private. If you want to hunt blm you might want to look farther south areas 35 and 39 can be some difficult access but a few less hunters. With all the precipitation they have been getting I think the deer numbers should be higher this year than they have for the last couple years. Good Luck.

If you see a longbox Dodge with MN plates out there and my cooler has horns sticking out if it, I'll help you out. ;)
